What is it really like to live in Bulgaria?

On paper, Bulgaria is a rapidly modernizing EU country, with low taxes, fast internet and a growing international crowd. But spend some time on the streets, and you’ll notice a very different social culture: one that can be blunt, guarded and far less focused on performative friendliness.

In this documentary, I explore why customer service can feel so different here, whether Bulgarians really prefer dating their own, and how decades of uncertainty and self-reliance may have shaped the way people interact with each other.

But there’s another side to Bulgaria too. Behind the sometimes abrupt interactions, I found genuine generosity and warmth.. it just didn’t always look the way I expected it to.
